A first tutor chat is most useful when it has one clear purpose. Instead of asking a tutor to teach everything, ask them to diagnose one problem and show how a focused study session would feel.
Bring three things
- A goal: pass an exam, speak more fluently, debug a project, revise an essay.
- A sample: one problem, paragraph, question, or recording.
- A constraint: deadline, current level, time available, or confidence issue.
What to judge
Notice whether the tutor asks good questions, explains mistakes, adjusts to your level, and leaves you with a clear next step. A polished answer is less useful than a repeatable learning method.
